      Charles Hadden "Charlie" EYERS
Died March 11, 2001. He was born November 13, 1903 in Saskatchewan,Canada to Irwin and Grace Eyers. Charlie was one of six children;Melvin, Queenie, Harry, Orville, and Jackie. Charlie was alwaysfiercely independent and at the age of 14 he left home to work at aneighboring ranch as a cowboy. In time, he discovered a talent forauto body repair and that led him to Minot, North Dakota where hebecame renowned for his skill in auto body repair and upholstery.Charlie bought a brand new Studebaker and that led him to the woman hewould spend his life with, Ella Zuzlin. He spotted her one afternoondriving a Studebaker identical to his own. He followed her home andmade friends with her brothers. Then he became a permanent fixturearound her house. Finally he wore her down and she fell in love withhim. They were married in 1924, and had three children, Chuck,Douglas, and Maureen. In 1936 they moved to Seattle where Charlie gota job offer from Boeing. Eventually Charlie bought the corner of S.E.136th & Ambaum Blvd. and built Chelsea Park Service. He and Ellabought a little house in Burien and settled in to raise their family. When Charlie retired, he and Ella bought a Fairlane Cabin Cruiser andjoined the Puget Sound Yacht Club. They loved to spend summerstogether boating at Whidbey Island and the San Juans. Later, Charlieand his oldest son Chuck built a pole barn together and restoredClassic Buicks. His favorite was a 1947 Super Convertible. He and Ellawere lifetime members of the Puget Sound Buick Club and could bespotted in all the local parades riding in that convertible. OnFebruary 18, 1997, Charlie and Ella were ready to go to lunch whenElla suffered a heart attack. Paramedics could not revive her and shepassed away in their little house in Burien. Charlie did his best tobuck up and get on with it for his children and grandchildren but thesimple fact was that he had lived with and loved Ella for most of his97 years, and when she left she took most of his heart with her.Gradually he began to slip away. At 11:30 in the morning on March 11,2001, Charlie left this world. We who loved him like to think that hehas kept that lunch date with Ella.
