Notes about the Sherwin surname
The Shearwin or Sherwin branch on my family tree comes from Yorkshire. The name may have originated from the Anglo-Saxon word “schere” means “to cut through” and “wind”. Before emigration, the family spelled the name Shearwin. After their arrival in Canada, the name became Sherwin.
